Custom system-defined metadata can be added to AWS S3 by following these steps:

  1. Log in to the AWS S3 console.
  2. Select the bucket where the object is located.
  3. Click on the object for which you want to add metadata.
  4. In the right-hand panel of the object details page, click on the “Properties” tab.
  5. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, and click on “Edit metadata”.
  6. Choose the “System-defined metadata” option.
  7. Add your custom metadata key-value pairs in the provided “Key” and “Value” fields.
  8. Click on the “Save” button to save your changes.

Note: System-defined metadata keys are pre-defined by AWS and cannot be changed. However, custom metadata keys can be added to the object.
