There could be several reasons why a file becomes empty after using the sed -e command:

  1. Syntax error: A syntax error in the command can cause the output to be empty.

  2. Incorrect delimiter: If the delimiter used in the command conflicts with the contents of the file, the output can be empty.

  3. Incorrect regular expression: If the regular expression used in the sed command doesn't match any part of the file, the output can be empty.

  4. Incorrect file permissions: If the file doesn't have the appropriate permissions, the sed command may not be able to modify the file, resulting in an empty output.

  5. Incorrect input file name or path: If the input file name or path is incorrect or doesn't exist, the output can be empty.
