To make TortoiseGit display only the top portion of an untracked directory in the Diff and Commit windows, follow these steps:
Open TortoiseGit settings by right-clicking on any folder and selecting TortoiseGit > Settings.
In the settings window, go to the General tab.
Under the Dialogs section, you will see a checkbox for "Show unversioned files in commit dialog."
Uncheck this checkbox and click OK to save the changes.
Now when you open Diff or Commit windows, TortoiseGit will only display the top level of an untracked directory instead of showing all the files in the directory.
