An empty provisioning profile in XCode 7.2.1 means that there is no profile available for use in your XCode project. A provisioning profile is used to authenticate your app with Apple and is required to run and test your app on a real device or submit it to the App Store. If you see an empty profile, it means that you need to create or update a provisioning profile in your Apple Developer account and then download and import it into XCode.
