A previously saved Java heap dump can be loaded back into memory using a Java Memory Analyzer tool, such as Eclipse Memory Analyzer (MAT).

  1. Open the tool and select File > Open Heap Dump.
  2. Browse to the location of the saved heap dump file and select it.
  3. Select the desired version of JVM and click Finish.
  4. Wait for the heap dump to load into memory.
  5. Once the heap dump is loaded, the tool will display the details of the application's memory usage at the time the dump was taken.

From here, the developer can analyze the application's memory usage and identify any memory leaks or bottlenecks that may have led to the need for the heap dump.
