In a fixed effects regression estimated using feols, the intercept term represents the average value of the dependent variable when all the independent variables are equal to zero for the reference category of the fixed effect variable. It is also referred to as the within-group intercept because it measures the intercept for each individual or entity in the dataset. The fixed effects regression model uses this intercept term to eliminate the group-specific intercepts, which allows us to estimate the effects of the independent variables on the dependent variable within each group. Therefore, the intercept term in a fixed effects regression model does not provide any information about the overall relationship between the dependent and independent variables, but rather represents a constant term that accounts for unobserved group-specific factors.
