There is no way to assess a formula from a different cell without using the equal (=) sign or VBA. The equal sign is the universal symbol for an equation in Excel, and it is required for the software to understand that you are trying to perform a calculation. VBA may provide alternate methods to accomplish this task, but if you are looking to use only standard Excel formulas, the equal sign is necessary.
