A DVR file is a video file format associated with the Microsoft Digital Video Recording (DVR) system, which is used to record television shows and other content from a broadcast signal. DVR files are typically created and used by Windows Media Center, a discontinued media player and digital video recorder application that was included in various versions of the Windows operating system.

DVR files contain video and audio data, as well as metadata about the recorded content, such as the show's title, air date, and episode information. The format is based on Microsoft's Advanced Systems Format (ASF), which is a container format designed to store synchronized multimedia content, including video, audio, and metadata.
