TS files, or Transport Stream files, are a type of digital container format used for storing video, audio, and data streams. They were originally designed for broadcasting systems, such as digital television and radio, but can also be used for streaming or storage purposes. TS files have the file extension .ts and are commonly used in the MPEG-2 Transport Stream (MPEG-TS) format, although they can also contain other formats such as H.264 and H.265 video codecs.

The main advantage of TS files is their ability to carry multiple video, audio, and data streams simultaneously while maintaining synchronization and ensuring error resilience. This makes them well-suited for live streaming and broadcasting applications where data integrity and real-time performance are crucial. However, TS files may not be ideal for general-purpose media playback due to their larger file sizes and compatibility issues with some media players. In such cases, converting them to a more widely supported format like MP4 or MKV is usually recommended.
