To configure Tomcat 9 in Ubuntu to utilize Java 17, you can follow these steps:

  1. Install Java 17 on your Ubuntu system using the following command:
sudo apt-get install openjdk-17-jdk
  1. Set JAVA_HOME environment variable to point to the Java 17 installation directory by adding the following line to the end of the /etc/environment file:
JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-17-openjdk-amd64
  1. Restart Ubuntu or run the following command to reload the environment variables:
source /etc/environment
  1. Edit the Tomcat 9 configuration file located at /opt/tomcat/conf/tomcat.conf and add the following line at the beginning of the file to set the Java path:
JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-17-openjdk-amd64
  1. Save the changes to the file and restart Tomcat 9 by running the following commands:
sudo systemctl stop tomcat
sudo systemctl start tomcat

Your Tomcat 9 server should now be configured to utilize Java 17.
