  1. Determine the data range: Determine the minimum and maximum values of the summarized data.
  2. Divide the data into quartiles: Divide the data into four equal parts or quartiles. The first quartile (Q1) is the 25th percentile, the second quartile (Q2) is the 50th percentile or median, and the third quartile (Q3) is the 75th percentile.
  3. Calculate the interquartile range (IQR): The IQR is the difference between the third and first quartiles (IQR = Q3 - Q1).
  4. Identify outliers: Outliers are values that lie more than 1.5 times the IQR below the first quartile or above the third quartile.
  5. Draw the boxplot: Draw a box using the third quartile, the median or second quartile, and the first quartile. Draw whiskers from the box to the minimum and maximum values that are not outliers. Mark any outliers as individual points on the plot.
