  1. Get the latest version of iTerm and zsh: Make sure you're running the latest version of iTerm and zsh. These updates can help to improve performance and fix any bugs that may be causing issues.

  2. Disable unnecessary plugins: Plugins for iTerm and zsh are great, but too many of them can slow down your system. Disable any plugins that you don't use regularly.

  3. Use a lightweight shell theme: A heavy shell theme with lots of customization can also slow down iTerm. Use a lightweight shell theme to improve performance.

  4. Adjust the size of iTerm's buffer: The larger the buffer size, the slower iTerm will run. Adjust the buffer size to a value that works best for you.

  5. Use a faster font: Some fonts render slower than others. Use a faster font like Fira Code or Monaco to improve iTerm's performance.

  6. Disable Transparency: Transparent windows and backgrounds are beautiful, but they have a performance cost. If you want improved performance, disable transparency.

  7. Use zsh's built-in tab completion: iTerm's tab completion can be slow at times. Use zsh's built-in tab completion instead to improve performance.

  8. Reduce the number of shell aliases: Aliases can make work easier, but too many of them can slow down your shell. Limit the number of shell aliases.

  9. Switch to a different shell: If all else fails, switch to a different shell. Fish and Dash are two great alternatives to zsh.
