The issue with using the ranef function on an mblogit model in R is that the mblogit function does not fit a single model, but instead fits a separate model for each level of the outcome variable. Therefore, there are no random effects to extract from the mblogit model using the ranef function, as each outcome level has its own set of coefficients. Instead, the coef function can be used to extract the fixed effects coefficients for each model.
