The header formats for MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 differ in several ways:

  1. Packet size: MPEG-1 header has a fixed size of four bytes, while MPEG-2 header has a variable size of four or five bytes.

  2. Packet ID: MPEG-1 header has a 13-bit packet ID, while MPEG-2 header has a 13-bit transport stream ID (TSID) and an 8-bit packet ID.

  3. Time stamp information: MPEG-2 header includes a time stamp information field, which is not present in MPEG-1 header.

  4. MPEG-2 header has additional information for packet synchronization and error correction, such as transport scrambling, adaptation fields, and cyclic redundancy check (CRC).

Overall, MPEG-2 header includes more information and features for improved transmission and error control, while MPEG-1 header is more simple and straightforward.
